Most course offerings are on an "as requested" basis. We have learned over the years that we can serve more people (and serve them better) by setting up classes as needed. This allows us to meet the needs of any size group, even if it is just a "group" of one. It also allows us to fit the training times into your schedule. Note that the length of most courses allows them to be conducted in a single evening session. Concealed Handgun Licensing courses are offered on a regularly scheduled basis, but are available on-request as well.
We have worked hard to develop a core curriculum that will appeal to a wide range of students. If you see a particular topic as part of a course, or would like to be trained in an area not mentioned in our course offerings, please contact us. We will work with you to develop a training program custom tailored to your experience level and needs. Our Executive Director's vast experience (click here) and current professional association memberships allow him to develop training for a wide variety of firearms, self defense, and law enforcement topics.
While our ranges are lighted to allow for night time shooting, they are all outdoors. If you enroll for a class which includes time on our shooting ranges, please bring appropriate clothing for outdoor wear.
Unless otherwise stated in the course write up, firearms and ammunition are NOT included in the cost of the course. No fee is charged for the use of our ranges for class purposes.
We encourage you to bring your own firearms for our classes. It is always best to train with the gun that you will actually be using. To ensure the safety of all of our students, our staff will need to inspect and approve any personal weapons and ammunition that you plan to use for a course. We recommend that you get this approval in advance of the class, so that you may make any corrections as needed to use your own weapon and/or ammunition. Reloads are not allowed for use in any class, except for the rifle classes.
If you do not have a firearm that is needed for a class, we do provide rental weapons. Our supply of rental weapons is not unlimited, however, so please call in advance of your course date and reserve the gun(s) that you may need. Handgun rental is $15.00 and Shotgun or Rifle rental is $25.00.
We also provide ammunition at discount prices. If you are bringing your own weapon and need to purchase ammunition, please call two weeks in advance of the class to assure that we have the appropriate caliber and quantity of ammunition for your needs.
Cost stated is per person. Discounts are generally available for three or more people attending a class together. Ask about these when you schedule your class.
Length and Cost: 2 Hours, $50
Description: This course is designed for shooting sports novices, but even seasoned shooters can benefit from this 2 hour class. You must be a minimum of 18 years of age to take this class. (Younger persons should enroll in our Young Guns program.) In the first part of the class, we cover basic firearms laws as relates to safety (for example, laws relating to children and firearms storage). We present the laws in simple, easy to understand terms.
Next, basic firearms terminology and operating concepts are presented to help the student understand how a firearm works. We use training firearms from our gun shop so that the student can safely learn in a "hands on" environment.
The final part of the class involves instruction in range safety and a limited amount of time on the gun range. Students will be given the opportunity to fire up to 20 rounds of handgun ammunition and 10 rounds each of rifle and shotgun ammunition. This part of the class gives the student the opportunity to demonstrate their safe firearms handling skills under the watchful eye of an instructor. It reinforces the lessons learned in the classroom session.
Title: Children's Firearms Safety Training - "Young Guns"

Basic firearms terminology and operating concepts are presented to help the student understand how a firearm works. As with the discussion of firearms law, the material is covered in simple, easy to understand terms, rather than complex, technical language. You will learn that there are many different firearms operating and safety systems and realize the importance of learning about these for a particular firearm BEFORE using it.
The 10 Commandments of Gun Safety are discussed fully. We don't just read the list, we talk about the reason for each rule and provide real world examples of the need for each one. The NRA video "Eddie Eagle" is also shown to help reinforce the concept that children should NEVER handle firearms without proper adult supervision and to teach them how to respond when they encounter firearms in various places.
After discussing the laws, firearms operation, and safety rules, a brief question and answer session is held to make sure that the student (and parent/guardian) understand the material covered thus far. Once our instructor is comfortable that the material is understood, a range session is conducted. At the parent's (guardian's) option, we will provide instruction using an air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, shotgun, and/or .22 handgun. Only rimfire (.22 caliber) rifles and pistols and small gauge shotguns are used; we've found that this is the best means to introduce the novice to firearms. The use of our air guns, .22 caliber guns, and ammunition for them are included in the course fee. Shotgun shells and clay targets may be purchased at the gun shop. Training with other types of firearms is available upon request.
The first part of the range session covers proper handling, operating and safety features for each gun used. Next, the student will be taught basic shooting skills at various distances and targets. Depending upon training selected, the student will fire a maximum of 50 rounds of air gun ammo (BB's), 50 rounds of .22 ammo, and 10 rounds of shotgun ammo.

Title: Unarmed Self Defense
Length and Cost: 3 Hours, $75
Description: This course teaches self defense skills that Carl Chandler has developed over his lifetime by using the best concepts and techniques from a wide variety of self defense disciplines. You need not be a big bruiser, or magically gifted with grace and coordination to learn these techniques. We won't ask you to buy a gi (uniform) or to learn complex katas (routines). Our training is a practical blend of mind, body and spirit. You will learn simple, easy to master techniques that have been proven to work in the real world.
The normal response to fear or danger brings about many changes in the body, setting off a series of reactions and responses. Many of these normal changes (for example, a rigid body stance which has you frozen in place, attention fixed on the perceived threat) actually place you in greater danger. With our training, you will learn to subconsciously overcome these natural reactions and will automatically respond in an appropriate manner when faced with the risk of serious harm.
When you train with us, you will learn how to respond to physical attack using only your fists and/or feet. You will learn all the vulnerable parts of the human anatomy that will allow you to defend yourself against a violent attack and how to escape from an attacker's hold. We'll also show you how to use an attacker's size, weight, and aggressive motions AGAINST him!
Some weapons training is included regarding knives and guns. Most of this instruction is geared toward disarming an attacker. You will also learn how to use common, everyday items as "weapons" for self defense.

This part of the course deals with threat level assessment and the use of force continuum. You will learn the appropriate amount of force that should be applied to resolve varying threats. When this part of the training is complete, you will understand the professional level rules of engagement that apply to law enforcement personnel involved in use of force situations. This is a higher standard than that which is applied to civilians. If you are ever involved in a use of force situation and apply this higher standard, you can rest assured that you took every reasonable measure to resolve the situation with the appropriate amount of force. There is a discussion of the legal process and law enforcement and court room terminology. Court room testimony is also discussed in depth.
The next part of the course helps you to understand how you receive, perceive and process information about events in a self defense situation. The psychological and physiological processes of self defense are covered in depth. Extensive role playing exercises will be used to help you develop skills to quickly assess a situation and instantly plan a course of action. You will learn how to sharpen your reasoning skills to help you make sound decisions quickly. Exercises performed in this part of the class also expose you to real world type threats and help you to learn almost "instinctive" responses. You will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to overcome your innate tendencies of response to threats that actually place you in greater danger.
The range portion of the course involves numerous exercises/drills with handguns, tactical shotguns, and carbines (e.g. AR 15 or Mini 14). Many of the shooting exercises are conducted in daylight hours, but exercises are also conducted in low light and no light conditions.
